NWU announces public curfew in Naga areas on Feb 9

Imphal, Feb 07: Demanding unconditional release of Anthony Ningkhan Shimray, who is the Head of Foreign Affairs of NSCN (I-M), Naga Women's Union (NWU) has announced its decision of imposing public curfew in all Naga inhabited districts of Manipur from 11 am to 1 pm on February 9.

According to a statement issued by President of NWU Aram Pamei, Anthony Ningkhan Shimray was 'abducted' on September 27, 2010 from Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport while flying in from Bangkok on his way to New Delhi to attend the peace talk between the Government of India and NSCN (I-M) scheduled to start on September 29, 2010. After five days of his abduction, the Government of India admitted to the 'arrest' of Shimray due to mounting pressures from National and International human right groups.  Since then, Shimray has been languishing in Tihar Central Jail, New Delhi on charges of procuring arms and waging war against the state (India). Pamei asserted that imprisoning Shimray amounts to negating the peace process and putting the people's trust in doubt. His participation in the peace talk would make a qualitative difference and his release would help in creating a constructive atmosphere for the ongoing peace process as well as in restoring mutual trust.

Imphal, Feb 07: As observed every year, the ritual of Nongkhrang Eehanba was observed today at the Lilong Irong River. The Lainingthou Sanamahi Thougal Kanglup organised the ritual which was attended by many people.
