I won't let down my colleagues in the industry back home – Bala
Imphal, Aug 05: Manipuri film actress Hijam Surjabala, who is better known by her stage name Bala, is all set to make her Bollywood debut in director Ravindra Surya Bashi's forthcoming flick. Confirming her first Bollywood venture, Bala told Hueiyen Lanpao that 'it's a dream come true, and now I need to prepare mentally.'
"Moreover, as the upcoming film is going to be screened nationwide, it's an opportunity to prove that our Manipuri film actors too have the potential and I won't let down my colleagues in the industry back home," Bala assured. About the film, her upcoming Bollywood flick tentatively titled as "Zindagi", Bala explained that it is a romantic adventure movie based on the life of a Manipuri girl, who falls in love with a non-Manipuri.
Bala, the 22-year-old actress, is playing one of the main protagonists in the film. Interestingly, Bala would dress in Manipuri traditional dress. This would be probably for the first time in the history of Bollywood cinema that a Manipuri girl in Manipuri traditional dresses would be sharing the limelight.
Although Bala refused to reveal the fees paid by the production company for her role in the film, she, nonetheless, disclosed that the production company has assured her to sign up in three of their upcoming projects. Bollywood Director and Producer R P Yadav reportedly came down to Manipur personally to meet Bala for signing up for 'Zindagi' and she gave her consent only after consulting with all the experts. Bala, who left Imphal for Mumbai on August 2, is currently lodged in Mumbai's Andheri with her mother and she would be in the city for more than one month till the completion of her shooting.
