Woman injured in bomb blast

Imphal, Jan 25: One woman was injured when two bombs exploded at Kakwa bazaar today ahead of the Republic Day Celebration, even as security arrangements have been beefed up.

The incident occurred today at around 7 pm. The injured woman has been identified as one Laishram ongbi Shanti (50) of Kakwa Ashem Leikai. She has been admitted to RIMS. Her condition is described as normal by the doctors.

Meanwhile RPF/PLA has claimed responsibility for the bomb blast at Kakwa bazaar today. In a press statement released by the Publicity Secretary, RPF, Taohangshu today, said that the party would further carry out bomb attacks and appealed to the general public to abstain from celebrating the Republic day and stay indoors.

Mamata meets Irom Sharmila

Imphal, January 25: In her short maiden visit to the state of Manipur in connection with the State Assembly election, Mamata Banerjee has met Irom Chanu Sharmila, who has been on fast for the last 11 years demanding removal of AFSPA.

During meeting with Sharmila today at JNIMS, Mamata Banerjee expressed that the problems faced by the people of the state under the Army Act can only be brought to an end if there is good governance in the state and said that Army rule cannot bring peace, development is the answer.
If the Trinamool Congress comes to power in the state, all draconian laws in the state will be removed. It is really disheartening and felt amaze at the way Irom Chanu Sharmila is being treated, forced feeding her in the hospital, Mamata observed. She further said that she would take up all necessary steps to bring up the issue at the national level and discussed it with the centre. Acknowledging the will power of Sharmila, she also said that she feels proud to be born as a woman and assured Sharmila that she would give all possible help in supporting her agitation.

Now vehicle owners in CorCom's hit list

Imphal, Jan 25: After releasing out lists of Congress workers who work for Congress candidates in the ensuing 10th Assembly Election, the Coordination Committee of Seven UG groups (CorCom) has out come out harsh against persons who lend or provide their vehicles to Congress candidates for the ensuing election.

Reiterating its previous warning not to lend or provide private vehicles or transport association's vehicles to Congress candidates, the CorCom today released a list of 77 vehicles along with their registration number and owners' names used by Congress candidates in different Assembly Constituencies. Among the 77 vehicles, 10 were in Sekmai A/C, 6 in Wangkhei A/C, 12 in Jiribam A/C, 3 in Lamlai A/C, 1 in Uripok A/C, 4 in Thongju A/C, 2 in Bishnupur A/C, 8 in Keirao A/C, 3 in Konthoujam A/C, 2 in Thangmeiband A/C, 2 in Oinam A/C, 9 in Wangkhem A/C, 2 in Sugnu A/C, 4 in Moirang A/C, 3 in Thanga A/C, 4 in Khurai A/C, 1 in Andro A/C and 1 in Heirok A/C.

In the statement, CorCom further stated that it will take up actions against those persons who lend their vehicles to Congress candidates, even if their names and vehicle registration numbers are not included in the first phase list, even or after the election.

Maoist claims attack on Ph Parijat

Imphal, Jan 25: The Maoist Communist Party Manipur in a statement claimed that the bomb attack at the election office of CPI candidate of Lamlai A/C Pheiroijam Parijat was carried out by Maoist cadres. In the statement Maoist claimed that the attack was carried out as per the ban of Maoist to Parijat for his activities during his tenure as a Minister in the SPF government.

In order to avoid any unwanted incidents, Maoist had previously warned the worker of four Ministers including the Chief Minister O Ibobi to abstain from poll related activities in favour of the ministers. It also claimed that the blank fires at Sekmai, Lamsang and Heingang areas were also carried out by Maoist cadres.  It further stated that Maoist will never forgive election agents and workers of Trinamool Congress candidate Heikham Dingku and INC candidate Khwairakpa Devendro @ Yaimaof INC candidate of Thoubal A/C Okram Ibobi, INC candidate of Sugnu A/C K Ranjit, INC candidate of Heingang N Biren and CPI candidate of Lamlai A/C Pheiroijam Parijat.

URF bans NPF state office

Imphal, Jan 25: The United Revolutionary Front (URF) in a press statement today imposed ban on the state office of the Naga People's Front (NPF) reacting against its communal agenda in contesting the ensuing 10th Assembly elections. It also stated that URF will give befitting punishment to candidates of NPF for instilling communal ill feelings by implying divide and rule policies like the Indian government.

Reacting against the statement of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio who tried to destroy the territorial integrity of Manipur by instigating the tribal people of the state against the state, URF stated that it was an act of disrespecting the people of the state. Instead of supporting the party, people of the state should boycott the next visit of the Nagaland CM in the state. It further stated that the front will take up actions against some leaders of MPCC who are also members of AICC regarding the issue of NPF.
